China’s Independently Developed New-Generation Deepwater Multifunctional Offshore Engineering Vessel Launched
On March 7, China’s independently developed new-generation deepwater multifunctional offshore engineering vessel was launched in Qidong, Jiangsu Province, marking its full transition into the commissioning and testing stage.

The vessel is a high-end offshore engineering platform independently developed by China to meet the needs of deep-sea development. It adopts a double-deck structure and a streamlined monohull design, with an overall length of 126 meters and a beam of 28 meters. The vessel is equipped with a 400-tonne offshore crane and is designed to carry advanced equipment such as a 3,000-tonne cable carousel, underwater robots, and subsea trenchers. It has a maximum operating water depth of 300 meters and is capable of operating in unrestricted navigation areas worldwide.
According to Jia Lujin, Construction Project Manager of the multifunctional offshore engineering vessel at Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd., the newly built deepwater multifunctional offshore engineering vessel can perform integrated offshore engineering operations across the full process, including subsea pipeline and cable installation, subsea structure installation, seabed survey, and transportation support.

In recent years, China has continued to strengthen the development of offshore engineering equipment. It has built an offshore engineering vessel fleet consisting of specialized deepwater vessels such as Haiyang Shiyou 201 and Haiyang Shiyou 291, forming full-sea-area operational capabilities from shallow to deep waters and from nearshore to offshore areas.
