Recently, the naming ceremony for Lvnengchuan, the first 174,000-cbm LNG carrier in CNOOC Gas & Power’s Phase-II project, was held in Shanghai. The vessel was surveyed by China Classification Society (CCS), and CCS Shanghai Branch was invited to attend the ceremony.

Lvnengchuan is the lead ship of the CNOOC Gas & Power Phase-II project and a main LNG carrier in CNOOC’s “Lvneng” series. Drawing on Hudong-Zhonghua’s mature experience in series-based ship design, development and batch construction, the vessel has been comprehensively optimized in design adaptability, construction stability and operational safety. Through standardized batch production, the construction cycle has been effectively shortened, while strict quality control has ensured improvements in both efficiency and quality. In terms of core configuration, the vessel is equipped with a mainstream membrane-type cargo containment system and an efficient dual-fuel environmentally friendly propulsion system. It offers outstanding advantages such as low energy consumption, low emissions, high safety and strong operational adaptability. Its performance indicators have reached an internationally advanced level and fully comply with new global green shipping regulations.

During construction, CCS was deeply involved in the full-process survey of the project, fulfilling its responsibility as China’s national team in ship survey and building a solid line of defense for safety and quality. The project team fully drew on the mature survey experience gained from Lvnengying, the first fifth-generation large LNG carrier. Supported by years of accumulated expertise in rule-based plan approval, survey technologies and professional talent development, CCS exercised strict control from the design stage and accurately managed quality at key construction stages such as dock erection and equipment commissioning. These efforts provided full-chain technical support and professional survey assurance for the vessel to achieve its naming milestone one month ahead of schedule.

The successful naming of Lvnengchuan demonstrates CCS’s technical strength in serving high-end shipbuilding and supporting the development of China as a strong transportation nation. Looking ahead, CCS will continue to strengthen its high-end ship survey capabilities, deepen cooperation with shipowners and shipyards, continuously improve service efficiency, and steadily move toward the goal of building a world-class modern China Classification Society.
