Sumitomo Corporation, “K” LINE and NYK Line Sign MoU on New Ammonia Bunkering Vessel Operations in Singapore
On March 17, 2026, Sumitomo Corporation, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE), and NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd. (“NYK Line”) signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly conduct a Front-End Engineering Design study and explore the ownership structure of a new-build ammonia bunkering vessel for application in Singapore.
The cooperation reflects the three parties’ shared commitment to supporting the development of a strong ammonia supply chain in Singapore. It also aligns with Singapore’s ambition to become a global hub for low- and zero-carbon marine fuels.
The MoU supports the ammonia value chain development initiative jointly led by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and Singapore’s Energy Market Authority. The initiative aims to promote the use of low- or zero-carbon ammonia for both power generation and marine fuel applications, contributing to Singapore’s energy transition and maritime decarbonization.
As part of the cooperation, Sumitomo Corporation will lead the FEED study to further develop its bunkering proposal and lay the technical and commercial foundation for future implementation. The three companies will work together on detailed studies covering the vessel’s basic design, technical specifications, safety and operational requirements, as well as a structuring and ownership model tailored to Singapore’s ammonia bunkering market.
